An NYPD officer was in for a huge surprise when the Tunnel to Towers Foundation announced it would pay off his mortgage.
It is part of the foundation’s 2020 Season of Hope, gifting mortgage-free homes to the nation’s heroes.
Detective Dalsh Veve says he was overwhelmed with emotion after learning the news.
His wife Esther says this will now allow her to focus more on her family, without the burden of making the house payments.
In June of 2017, Veve was injured during a traffic stop in East Flatbush. He was dragged for two and a half blocks by a teenager who stole the car, leaving him unable to walk and speak.
Three years later, Veve uses a wheelchair due to his injuries.
The foundation and NYPD officers presented Veve with a check Friday.
After years of being burdened by medical bills, Esther Veve says this is a sigh of relief.
Veve is one of 250 heroes across the country presented with the money this year. The foundation says its goal is to pay off 100 mortgages by the end of next year.
