A truck driver from Jersey City is facing attempted murder charges following a road rage incident that resulted in eight separate crashes on an Illinois interstate Tuesday.

According to the Illinois State Police, Hassan A. Moutassim, 25, allegedly drove his semi‑truck recklessly on the northbound side of I‑57 in Chicago, causing eight crashes, then assaulting another driver.

“After the last crash near Halsted Street, Moutassim stopped his semi‑truck and exited. He reportedly physically removed a driver from one of the other crashed vehicles and began battering the driver, including an attempt to strangle the victim,” Illinois State Police said in a statement.

Police say the victim suffered injuries and was transported to a local hospital. Troopers then took Moutassim into custody. He was charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery‑strangulation and aggravated battery on a public way.
