A 69‑year‑old school bus aide from Paterson has been arrested and charged with sexually assaulting two minors in Roselle.

Federico Nicasio Genao faces two counts of second‑degree endangering the welfare of a child by sexual contact and two counts of third‑degree aggravated criminal sexual contact. The charges stem from a report made to the Roselle Police Department on April 7, 2026.

The investigation revealed that Genao, while serving as a school bus aide, allegedly targeted teenage victims with autism who were passengers on his bus. Authorities noted that one of the victims is non‑verbal.

The prosecutor described the allegations as a “profound betrayal of trust” and a “direct threat to the safety of our most vulnerable residents.” While an arrest has been made, officials stated the investigation remains active to ensure all impacted individuals are supported.

Genao was taken into custody on April 10, 2026, at the Roselle Police Department. He is currently being held in the Essex County Jail.
