Commuters in both Clifton and Carlstadt were facing detours and delays Thursday morning due to water main breaks.

So far, a timeline as to when repairs will be complete has not yet been offered.

Repairs have started on Clifton Avenue after an eight inch main gave way at around 9:30 a.m., closing the road at Paulison Avenue to all traffic.

The road flooded, yet neighbors in the area said they were mainly dealing with discolored water flowing from faucets for a brief period. Utility crews with Passaic Valley Water Commission will have to repair the pipe and the road before and cars are allowed to travel.

Meanwhile, in Carlstadt, water was found bubbling up from the ground on Broad Street.

One man said he was hoping the water would be cut off before it damaged his business.

"Right now, unfortunately, it's only going to the receiving dock where I work....mess right now," said William Schlatmann. "Pretty hectic. I have five dock doors. Three tractor-trailers I'm trying to receive now. And trying to get product out as well. All my dock doors are backed up in front of my building. It's a mess right now."
