Gov. Mikie Sherrill announced Thursday that New Jersey is accepting applications for a pilot program aimed at making the state’s permitting process more transparent.

The Permitting Dashboard pilot will allow selected energy, commercial and multi-family housing projects to track cross-agency permits in one place. The program will include up to 10 randomly selected projects that have recently submitted, or are about to submit, permit applications to the state Department of Environmental Protection, Department of Transportation or Department of Community Affairs.

Applications are open through May 21 at Permits.NJ.Gov.

Sherrill announced the pilot on her 100th day in office, calling it part of a broader effort to cut permitting times and make it easier to build housing, open businesses and move infrastructure projects forward.

The full dashboard is expected to eventually allow applicants and the public to track permit applications across state agencies, including target due dates, next steps and status updates.

The administration says the pilot follows earlier steps, including the creation of a cross-agency Permitting Governing Council, agency permit catalogs and input from more than 350 members of the business community.

“This is a critical step toward a more streamlined system, saving New Jerseyans time and money and making it easier to build more housing, open businesses, and deliver critical infrastructure across our state. That will drive affordability, job creation, economic growth, and opportunities for New Jersey families,” said Sherrill.
