More progress is being made on New Jersey Transit’s new Portal Bridge over the Hackensack River.
The first steel beam was hoisted into position on Thursday.
The new bridge will be double the height of the old one, which means it won’t have to open and close for boats to pass through.
The project is part of the Gateway Program and is expected to be completed by late 2027.
