A federal law enforcement operation in Parsippany led to gunfire early Wednesday morning, prompting a temporary shelter-in-place alert for nearby residents.

The Drug Enforcement Administration confirmed that agents were executing a court-authorized search warrant when shots were fired. One suspect was shot and taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

No agents were hurt, according to the DEA.

The Parsippany-Troy Hills Police Department first alerted residents around 6:30 a.m. about law enforcement activity near Kingston Road, Route 202 and Alloway Road.

Route 202/Littleton Road has since reopened.

As of 9:30 p.m., Kingston Road between Route 202 and Alloway Road remains closed as the investigation continues.
