The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office is investigating a fatal shooting by police that occurred Friday morning inside a senior housing complex in New Brunswick.
Deborah Terrell, 67, was shot by a police officer in the hallway of Fricano Towers on Neilson Street.
Officials say Terrell was Tased and pepper-sprayed before the officer fired his weapon. Police had responded to reports that she was walking around with a knife and threatening other residents.
Authorities say officers confronted her at her apartment and verbally engaged her before the shooting.
Terrell’s son says deadly force was not necessary. A tenant told News 12 off camera that Terrell had banged on her door and made threats multiple times early that morning.
