Five MTA bus routes throughout the five boroughs will be fare free for the next six months.

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced the pilot program back in July.

MTA officials say that chosen routes were based on several factors such as ridership, low-income communities, access to employment and service adequacy.

In the Bronx, the Bx18 A/B, which serves Morris Heights, Highbridge and Mount Eden, will be fare free.

In Brooklyn, it’s the B60, which services Canarsie, Brownsville, Ocean Hill, Bushwick and Williamsburg.

News 12's Schniece Archer was in Brooklyn where elected officials and riders commented on the pilot program .

Buses on the fare free routes are marked “Fare Free” on destination signs, onboard digital signs, symbols inside the bus and on OMNY readers. The pilot program does not include free transfers or subway lines.
