A $7.6 million redevelopment project has officially transformed a former Paterson industrial brownfield into the Quarry Lawn and River Walk.

The grand opening will be marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Quarry Lawn and River Walk. The River Walk extends from the Great Falls to the West Broadway Bridge, providing visitors with scenic views, shaded seating, and educational features focused on ecology and water conservation. The site also includes a 1.5-acre Great Lawn for community events, alongside preserved brownstone ruins from the historic Knipsher & Mass Dyeworks and a stabilized ATP River Wall.

This $7.6 million redevelopment project involved critical environmental cleanup by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency at the former Allied Textile Printing Superfund site.

Beginning in June 2025, crews worked to remove asbestos, address lead-contaminated debris, and stabilize structures to ensure the area is safe for public use.

Collaboration with the National Park Service, the project aligns with the City’s 2011 General Agreement and the Great Falls National Historical Park General Management Plan from 2015.

The park also serves as a tribute to the late Congressman Bill Pascrell, whose leadership was instrumental in bringing the vision for this space to fruition.

The Quarry Lawn and River Walk is fully ADA accessible and equipped with modern lighting and security features to ensure a safe environment for all visitors, highlighting Paterson’s commitment to preserving its industrial heritage.
