The most powerful storm so far this year brought heavy rain and strong winds to parts of New Jersey.
The rain started Monday evening in the western part of New Jersey and tore across the state to the east.
Severe thunderstorm warnings were issued for the southern portion of the state.

A tornado warning was also issued for a time for parts of Middlesex and Monmouth counties. It was not immediately clear if a funnel cloud did touch down. The National Weather Service will have to make the final determination.
Power outages and damage seemed to be limited around the state as of 10 p.m.
