As firefighters continue working to control lingering hotspots from the warehouse fire in Belleville, the financial impact is growing.

Gov. Mikie Sherrill toured the area alongside Mayor Michael Melham on Thursday.

Officials say helping affected residents and businesses is a top priority moving forward, but state aid will be needed to cover mounting costs. That includes reimbursing neighboring Nutley for the significant amount of water used to battle the fire.

Demolition could continue Friday on the remaining portion of the warehouse that has yet to be taken down.

Meanwhile, 51 residents remain without power.
