A 34-year-old man from Irvington is in critical condition after a hit-and-run in Union, police say.
Union police are on the lookout for the driver of what appears to be a Ford F150 pickup truck, without a bed cover, chrome front bumper and two New Jersey license plates. There was no debris left at the scene, but the truck would have damage to the front bumper and hood area from the impact.
In alarming surveillance video, the hit-and-run can be seen on Stuyvesant Avenue. You can see a person with a grey hoodie and backpack crossing in the middle of the road.
The truck continues driving, while that pedestrian is left behind in the middle of the road. Patrol officers arrived to find a man with serious injuries in the middle of the street. News 12 heard from a witness parked across the street from when it happened.
"I was sitting in my car parked across the street and as I was sitting there I heard a boom sound," said eyewitness Robert Lee. "I got out and started walking and as I was walking up I saw that it was a body. That's when I called 911 after," he said.
Officers tended to the injured man who was taken to University Hospital in critical condition.
Anyone who may have information about the incident is urged to contact Traffic Investigator Marco Novoa-Rios by emailing mnovoarios@uniontownship.com or calling dispatch at 908-851-5000.
