The FIFA Club World Cup is underway at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, and New Jersey officials are calling it a dress rehearsal for next summer's World Cup.
The stadium is hosting nine matches, including the final, drawing fans from around the world.
To ease congestion, the Meadowlands Rail Line is running from Secaucus Junction to the stadium every 15 minutes, starting four hours before kickoff and ending three hours after. Supplemental buses are also in service.
Officials say the real test will come next year. NJ Transit and the Department of Transportation are preparing a seven-mile bus rapid transit route called the Transitway to reduce traffic.
"We're working with New Jersey Transit to set up dedicated bus lanes along Route 120 during peak demand," said NJDOT Commissioner Fran O'Connor.
FIFA NYNJ Host Committee CEO Alex Lasry said public transportation will be key to making the World Cup a success for both visitors and locals.
