Two passengers involved in a fatal car crash are now facing a number of charges.
Twenty-year-old Jake Beauchamp, of Barnegat, and 18-year-old Ryan Rivera, of Toms River, are now charged in connection with the crash on Route 37.
Both have been hit with several charges, including aggravated manslaughter and vehicular homicide, aggravated assault, causing bodily injury with fleeing, eluding, hindering prosecution — suppressing evidence, and obstruction. Police say they were in the car that caused the crash.
The suspect allegedly behind the wheel - 18-year-old Carlos Martinez - will remain in jail this morning. His defense attorney had been pushing for home confinement.
Court documents say he was driving drunk, without a license and blew a red light on Route 37--slamming into another car back in March.
Evan Fiore and Kiley Armstrong were killed. During a hearing yesterday, a judge ruled Martinez was too much of a danger to set him free.
The prosecution said evidence shows Martinez and his friends regularly drove at high speeds and away from police for fun. His next hearing is scheduled for Aug. 7.
