A 31-year-old woman died after being struck by a school bus while crossing a street in Hackensack, authorities said.
Hackensack police responded to the intersection of South Summit Avenue and West Pleasantview Avenue on Tuesday around 8:30 a.m. for a crash involving a school bus and a pedestrian, the Bergen County Prosecutor said.
Investigators said the bus struck the woman as she was crossing South Summit Avenue in a marked crosswalk. The driver, who was operating a bus for J&W Financial LLC, remained at the scene.
The victim, identified as Tima J. Asp, of Lodi, was taken to an area hospital in critical condition but later died, authorities said.
Officials say the bus driver was making a left turn from West Pleasantview Avenue onto South Summit Avenue when the collision occurred.
Authorities said there is no indication of criminal activity and criminal charges are not expected.
