A Long Beach Island community is stepping up after a devastating fire damaged a longtime restaurant in Surf City.
Fire tore through Wally’s Restaurant Saturday night around closing time.
Video from firefighters shows flames engulfing the building as crews worked to bring the blaze under control.
No one was inside at the time of the fire.
The owners say they are devastated by the damage to the restaurant, which has been a staple in the community for decades.
The building was left heavily charred.
It is unclear what caused the fire, and there is no timeline yet for when the restaurant may reopen.
In the meantime, the community has quickly come together to support the business.
A GoFundMe campaign has already raised more than $40,000.
