Gas prices keep soaring across the Hudson Valley, but a plan in Orange County that could have lowered them a bit has been voted down.

Eight county legislators voted against a plan to cap the county’s gas tax at $3 per gallon. The county executive says the people who opposed the plan did not think the savings would have been big enough. But drivers say they need some help:

“Pretty soon we won’t even be able to afford to go to work to make money.” “Any relief would be great. I drive for a living all across the Hudson Valley.”

The legislator who proposed the bill says most drivers would have saved about 85 cents per tankful.
