NJ man arrested in NYC for assault that left man dead on subway platform

A Union County man was arrested in New York City after a 55-year-old man died after being found unconscious on a Manhattan subway platform over the weekend, police said.

Nassadir Tate, 21, of Hillside, was arrested and charged with assault.

Officers responded to a 911 call at about 6:55 p.m. Saturday at the 34th Street–8th Avenue subway station, according to the New York City Police Department.

Police said they found the man unconscious and unresponsive on the northbound platform of the C/E line. Paramedics transported him to Lenox Hill Hospital in critical condition, where he was later pronounced dead.

The man’s identity has not been released pending family notification.

Information on any potential further charges was not immediately available.
