An Atlantic County grand jury has indicted a former Ventnor police officer on multiple criminal charges after he used his personal cell phone to secretly record a female prisoner in a police holding cell.

Ryan Bonanni, 25, faces serious legal consequences following an investigation into the July 2025 incident. The indictment includes second-degree official misconduct, third-degree invasion of privacy, and third-degree criminal computer activity.

According to the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, the incident occurred on July 6, 2025. Investigators allege that Bonanni took several videos of a female prisoner while she was nude and secured in a holding cell at the Ventnor Police Department.

Authorities said the recordings were made secretly and without the knowledge of other officers involved in the woman’s arrest. Following the recording, Bonanni allegedly distributed the videos via Snapchat to fellow Ventnor police officers, as well as to his civilian friends and family members.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation alongside the Ventnor Police Department shortly after becoming aware of the incident.

Bonanni, who was a Ventnor police officer at the time of the recording, now faces up to 10 years in New Jersey state prison if convicted on the second-degree misconduct charge alone.

The case remains under prosecution by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office. Officials have not commented further on Bonanni’s current employment status, though the charges stem from his time as an active-duty officer.
