A New Jersey man was arrested in connection with a box truck hit-and-run that killed a woman in Bushwick, authorities say.

William Cruz is accused of striking 29-year-old Jenny Maribel Chacho Sanchez with the truck just before 8:30 a.m. on April 17 as she was crossing Gates Avenue, just a block from her home.

Investigators say Cruz, 49, of Carteret, was driving the truck northbound on Saint Nicholas Street when he made a left-hand turn onto Gates Avenue, where Chacho Sanchez was crossing.

Surveillance footage obtained by News 12 shows the white and green truck strike Chacho Sanchez and continue driving down Gates Avenue.

Emergency personnel rushed Chacho Sanchez to Wyckoff Heights Medical Center, where she died.

Authorities say that Cruz only returned to the scene after they contacted him to tell him what happened.

Community members who stopped by a growing memorial at the intersection told News 12 that Chacho Sanchez was originally from Ecuador and was on her way to work at the time of the incident.

Cruz is charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian and failure to exercise due care.
