Long Branch announced plans for a new fishing and pedestrian pier thanks to a $3.25 million grant from the state's Boardwalk Preservation Fund, the city announced on Wednesday.
The pier is expected to be about 500 feet long, will operate year-round and will be fully ADA accessible.
According to the city, Mayor John Pallone and the city council said they have always had a vision to bring back a prized destination in Long Branch by building a passive pier that is also fully ADA compliant.
Mayor Pallone says the fishing pier will provide residents and visitors with access to deeper depths for fishing.
The project isn't set to start until 2025.
