A pedestrian suffered nonfatal injuries after being struck by an Egg Harbor Township police patrol vehicle early Wednesday, authorities said.

The crash occurred just after 12 a.m. on the Black Horse Pike near Old Egg Harbor Road, according to the Egg Harbor Township Police Department.

Police said Officer William Danz, who was on duty and driving a marked patrol vehicle eastbound on the Black Horse Pike, struck a pedestrian who was crossing the roadway near the intersection. After the collision, Danz immediately stopped and rendered aid until emergency medical personnel arrived.

The pedestrian, identified as Alvin Powers, 58, of Pleasantville, was taken to AtlantiCare Trauma Unit–City Division with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

A preliminary investigation found Powers was crossing the road outside a marked crosswalk located nearby. Police also said he was wearing dark clothing in a poorly lit area during heavy rain.
