Downed power lines close Route 70 intersection in Toms River after truck strikes utility wires
Authorities urged drivers to avoid the area as crews worked to clear the scene and restore power following the late-morning incident.
A tractor-trailer hauling a forklift struck overhead power lines in Toms River on Wednesday morning, bringing down utility wires and prompting traffic disruptions, authorities said.
The incident occurred at about 10:58 a.m. at the intersection of Route 70 and Whitesville Road, according to the Ocean County Sheriff's Office.
Authorities said a white semi-truck traveling north on Whitesville Road was pulling a lowboy trailer loaded with a forklift when it struck the power lines, knocking them to the ground.
Utility crews responded to clear the area and restore power. Officials urged motorists to avoid the intersection and use caution if traveling nearby.
The sheriff's office also reminded the public to treat all downed power lines as energized and warned people not to move or drive over them.
