Final numbers show more New Jersey schools made the grade in relation to test scores than previously thought.
The progress status of many schools and some districts, under the No Child Left Behind Act, changed over the school year. Some of the changes were better, some were worse. The Hamilton Township School District saw changes in both directions.
Preliminary numbers from the fall showed the district was lagging when it came to helping special needs students. Superintendent Neil Bencivengo said he knew it couldn?t be true. ?We felt pretty sure the whole picture wasn?t there,? Bencivengo said.
New numbers now show the district is just fine. Many parents say they?re not surprised. ?I just figured there?s no way with the programs they offer it could ever be a problem,? parent Jennifer Snyder said.
While the district changed for the better, one of its schools did not. Morgan Elementary is now considered a school in need of improvement. Bencivengo says he plans to appeal that assessment to get the numbers reviewed again.
