An injured dog was rescued early Sunday morning after a 26-mile trek along the NJ Turnpike that began the night before.

Abbie, a 9-year-old dog, went missing after she escaped from a transport vehicle out of South Carolina at the Joyce Kilmer rest area in East Brunswick.

Using advanced thermal imaging drones, the U.S.A.R. (Unmanned Search and Rescue) drone team was able to locate Abbie and transport her to safety with the help of the Woodbridge Township Police Department.

She was taken to an animal hospital with an injured hind leg.

This marks the 123rd pet rescue by the drone team.
