The mother of a 14-year-old who
went missing in mid-October will have her day in court next week.
Jamie Moore's detention hearing
has been adjourned until next Tuesday. No time has been specified as of
now.
Her attorney, Durann Neil Jr.,
who said he was recently retained by the family, spoke on Moore’s behalf in
virtual court, saying he hasn't been able to speak to his client because of her
detainment and asked to meet at a later date after speaking with her.
Jashyah Moore went missing in
October and was found safe in New York City last week. Her mother is now
facing abuse and neglect charges.
Officials say Jamie Moore had a history of
physically
abusing her daughter. Jamie Moore
allegedly stabbed her daughter, sprayed bleach in her eyes, pulled her braids
out and hit her on the head with a frying pan. Jamie Moore is also accused of putting
her knees on the teen's neck and back, causing the teen to struggle to breathe.
Jamie Moore allegedly forced
her daughter to log out of remote learning so that she could panhandle for
money and take care of her younger brother. Authorities say that Jashyah Moore was
not enrolled in school this year, even though she wanted to be.
Attention is now being put on
other kids who are possibly facing abuse at home, and more resources are
being put out for these kids.
Jashyah Moore and her
3-year-old brother are in the care of the state.
