The Sayreville Police Department has released 911 calls from the night Council Member Eunice Dwumfour was gunned down outside of her apartment complex.
Multiple residents called the police on Feb. 1 around 7 p.m. to report that they heard gunshots outside the complex.
One caller told dispatchers that he even saw the shooter.
“I looked out my window. I saw a man shooting into the driver’s side of a white vehicle…then he left and ran,” the caller stated.
Dwumfour, a Republican, was shot multiple times while sitting inside her white SUV. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Sayreville Council held its first meeting on Monday since Dwumfour’s death. It was a night full of emotion.
“I believe even if she is not here, we have learned so much from her,” said Mayor Victoria Kilpatrick.
There was a moment of silence in Dwumfour’s honor, and a red rose was placed in front of the chair where Dwumfour would have sat.
“I hope that you take a moment to look at that rose and understand the beauty that it represents,” Kilpatrick said
Authorities have not confirmed whether the motive behind the killing might be personal, political or a random act. No arrests have been made.
“Our public safety liaison was Eunice Dwumfour and this is the first meeting she would not be giving that report,” Kilpatrick said.
Dwumfour leaves behind a 12-year-old daughter and was recently married. Her husband is a pastor in Nigeria. A GoFundMe has been created for Dwumfour’s daughter.
