Jury reexamines video evidence in Arlington football fatal stabbing case

The case against Nestor Ortiz-Ocampo, the 19-year-old accused of murdering a 16-year-old Arlington High School student after a football game, is now in the hand of the jury.
Tuesday was the first day of deliberations. The jury of seven men and five women asked to reexamine several pieces of video evidence in the case.
Ortiz-Ocampo is accused in the fatal stabbing of Quraan Smith in Sept. 2021 during a brawl after an Arlington High School football game. The defense argued Ortiz-Ocampo got caught up in the melee in the parking lot. They say their client tried to leave the area, when Smith got in his way. They are claiming the stabbing was in self-defense.
Prosecutors argued that Ortiz-Ocampo entered that parking lot looking for a fight. They say a deputy restrained him during the brawl, but he broke free and then stabbed Smith in the chest.
Smith died a short time later.
Ortiz-Ocampo faces charges of second-degree murder, manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon. A conviction on the murder charge could net up to 25 years in prison.
The jury returns to deliberate Wednesday morning at 9:30 a.m.
