Newark Cardinal Joseph Tobin celebrated Mass on Sunday in Newark and thanked Pope Francis for his leadership following allegations against the ex-Arch Bishop of Newark Theodore McCarrick.
McCarrick, who had served in New Jersey for more than 14 years, was defrocked Saturday after the church found him guilty of sex abuse.
Tobin called McCarrick's behavior "profoundly disheartening and disturbing."
