While the next workplace act of violence is impossible to predict, there's are preventative steps that companies and workers can take.
Security expert Sal Lifrieri, president of Protective Countermeasures, tells News 12 to look for certain red flags in co-workers, like drastic changes in their personality or if they begin to sympathize with the shooter in other incidents.
It's also critical for businesses to develop a safe way for co-workers and patrons to report suspicious activities.
They say companies should be encouraging people to speak up if they notice anything out of the ordinary.
Lifrieri says that having a plan can keep people safe.
"When you have a staff that's trained, that understands what they need to do, it goes a long way in mitigating a lot of the devastation that can occur," says Lifrieri.
