Residents in the Sea Bright area heard a loud bang around 9 p.m. Sunday. It turns out it was a transformer fire that took place in the area of Route 36 and Rumson Road.

The Department of Transportation and JCP&L crews have been working overnight to work on the aftermath of the fire. A water pole was struck and caused an outage for residents nearby.

As of now, Route 36 is closed between the Rumson Bridge and Highlands Bridge.

For locals, keep in mind there are a lot of dead end roads in the area, and it may be wise to plan an alternate route to get to work this morning, especially if you have to hit the Garden State Parkway.
