Dozens of Roslyn Heights residents are frustrated over a proposed expansion to a gas station near their homes.
A Mobil gas station and restaurant on Willis Avenue just south of the Long Island Expressway service road is set to become a new gas station with a Bolla Market and drive-thru Tim Hortons.
The proposal by Bolla EM Realty would revitalize the current gas station and demolish an empty restaurant next door to build one of the largest gas stations in the Town of North Hempstead.
Many people living in the nearby community say the project will increase traffic and negatively affect their quality of life.
"We contend that this is only going to exacerbate the already difficult traffic situation that we have here now," says Michael Alper, of Roslyn Heights.
Bolla Management president Harry Singh says he has been in communications with residents since February 2020 and that he has reduced the number of gas pumps from nine to six. He also says the proposal would transform an abandoned property into something that can serve the community.
Alper and other residents say they plan on attending a public hearing in the Town of North Hempstead Tuesday at 7 p.m. to have their voices heard.
