A 25-year-old man was arrested Saturday morning after a 34-hour standoff in Bridgewater that kept parts of the neighborhood under a shelter-in-place order.

The situation began Thursday night on Hill Lane after police were called to the home. Authorities said Eric J. Thorogood was believed to be armed as negotiators spent more than a day trying to get him to come out peacefully while nearby residents were evacuated.

SWAT officers entered the home around 6 a.m. and took Thorogood into custody.

Officials said he fired three shots during the arrest and suffered a gunshot wound to his leg.

No officers or residents were seriously hurt.

Thorogood was taken to a hospital for treatment and will be taken to the Somerset County Jail afterward.

He faces several charges, including weapons offenses, aggravated assault and endangering another person.
