Mother's Day is a time to celebrate the women who shape families, traditions and communities, and in New Jersey, many say there is something uniquely special about being a "Jersey mom."
News 12 asked residents what sets New Jersey mothers apart, and the answers painted a picture of women who are loving, resilient and unmistakably proud of where they're from.
"Jersey moms do not take any crap, and they raise amazing women," said Jenna Walstedt.
That blend of toughness and affection came up repeatedly.
"We like all the Jersey stuff. We love the beach, we love the casinos, we love all that kind of stuff. And again, we're tough, but we're great. We're loving moms," said Joanne Zullo, a mother and grandmother.
For many, being a New Jersey mom means embracing the traditions that define life in the Garden State.
"I think it requires you taking your children to the beach and teaching them how to be, Jersey shore girls. A Jersey shore girl." said Jacy, a mom.
"Being loud and making pork roll sandwiches," said Lisa, a mother, laughing.
"She never misses a beat," said Jalisa Jones of her mother. "From holidays to birthdays, she exaggerates every holiday."
