With New Jersey set to host some of the games in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Rep. Josh Gottheimer announced new federal action for the safety of attendees and residents.
The new federal action aims to combat undetectable guns and secure public stadiums. It's part of his "Common Sense Gun Safety" strategy.
Data from Everytown finds that over 400 people are killed by guns and over 1,200 are injured by firearms annually.
Gottheimer says he will also send letters to all major league sports teams urging them to create an inter-league task force to address security threats.
