A Middlesex County father whose 6-week-old infant was hospitalized in critical condition Tuesday is facing charges, according to prosecutors.

Police say a 911 call from a house along Clauss Street in Carteret reported that the child had facial and head injuries.

The infant was then taken to St. Peters Hospital.

Authorities say 20-year-old Ezekiel Crespo is charged with attempted murder and child endangerment.

He is being held pending a court appearance.

Police say the cause of the injuries remains under investigation.
