Ridgefield man charged in spitting incident at Fairview protest

A Ridgefield man is facing assault charges after police said he spit on people during protests against Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Bergen County.

Giancarlo Pontecorvo, 26, allegedly spit in a woman's face before she drove through a crowd of protesters on Fairview Avenue Saturday.

Police said the woman and Pontecorvo argued after he stopped traffic to let the group cross.

Video from the scene shows the driver forcing her way through the crowd, sending one person to the hospital and injuring several others.

Police identified the driver as 62-year-old Linda Roglen, of North Bergen. She faces multiple charges, including reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident and four counts of assault.
