A grand jury has decided not to file criminal charges against a Fort Lee police officer who fatally shot a woman during a mental health crisis call last year.

Police say Victoria Lee closed her apartment door on officers when they arrived and threatened to stab them if they entered.

Officer Tony Pickens eventually forced his way inside and said he saw Lee with an object in her left hand that he believed to be a knife. After ordering Lee to drop the knife, Lee stepped toward the officers, according to officials.

This is when Pickens opened fire, killing Lee.

A knife was found at the scene, according to officials.
