The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office has announced a woman has been charged with murder in connection to the shooting death of her husband.

Jackson Township police responded Monday around 2:15 a.m. to a home in reference to a 911 call indicating that a male victim had been shot.

Officers found the body of Roderick Ashford lying unresponsive on the floor with a gunshot wound to the face. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

An investigation determined Antonia Ashford, 44, pointed a handgun at Roderick and discharged the weapon, causing his death. She was arrested and transported to the Ocean County Jail, where she is presently lodged pending a detention hearing.

Antonia is also charged with possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
