The dog may have been the one in need of assistance, but social media users quickly shifted their attention after Englewood police shared a photo of the lost pup in an officer's arms.

In the post, Englewood police said, "PO Lagrosa will be riding doubles in the patrol car today with our newest addition to the 'EPD temporary K-9 Unit.' This adorable pup was found near West Palisade Avenue and Humphrey Street."

The photo shows the dog, tongue sticking out, looking at the camera. But in the comments, many users focused on the officer instead of the animal.

"If he needs a home, I'll take him. The dog is on his own," one person commented. Another said, "I'd like to adopt the human in the photo; I dunno about the canine though."

Another person joked about having visited Englewood in the past—with possible plans to return.

"I've been to Englewood a few times, and all times WITHOUT so much as even a ticket. It seems now I'm going to have to push my luck," she said.

But it seems Englewood police knew what they were doing when they posted the photo, even jumping into the comments a few times.

"Ooooh I get it. You put a hot cop in the picture to gain more views. I didn't notice the dog either until I read the post in its entirety," one commenter said. In response, Englewood police jokingly acknowledged it, saying, "We're looking for detectives, you're hired!"

In another comment, someone said, "Please send help… I sprained my ankle running to the comments." Englewood police were quick to reply on PO Lagrosa's behalf saying, "good thing our officers respond to medical service calls!"

Posted on Tuesday afternoon, the post has started to go viral, garnering more than 800 likes on Facebook and hundreds of comments. Police say the pup's owners have come forward to pick the dog up, but with more than 100 shares on social media, the post continues to unleash waves of attention.
