Four Newark men have been sentenced to prison for their roles in a burglary crew that targeted homes across Nassau County, New York, stealing luxury vehicles and other property during a string of break-ins and attempted break-ins in late 2023 and early 2024, prosecutors said.
Furquan Ahmad, 22, was sentenced Tuesday to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to burglary and weapons charges. Jawaun Whitted, 24, and Fazon Farrington, 21, were each previously sentenced to 10 years, while Raquil Hayes, 23, received a 3½-year prison term.
Prosecutors said the group attempted to burglarize more than a dozen homes in Nassau County communities, often targeting key fobs for high-end vehicles. Authorities linked the defendants to multiple thefts of BMWs, a Mercedes-Benz and an Audi, along with cash and other valuables.
The investigation ended Jan. 13, 2024, after an attempted burglary in Lake Success. Prosecutors said the men crashed into a police vehicle while fleeing and were later apprehended. A loaded Glock handgun equipped with a device that converted it to fully automatic fire was recovered from their getaway car.
“These defendants went on a holiday season burglary spree, targeting homes across Nassau County in the middle of the night and focusing their theft on high-end vehicles,” Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly said.
