A 30-year-old Rockland County man has died from injuries following a severe two-vehicle collision over the weekend in Passaic County.
The fatal crash occurred Sunday, May 31, at approximately 5:55 p.m. near the intersection of Warwick Turnpike and Lake Shore Drive in the Hewitt section of West Milford.
According to a joint statement from the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office and West Milford Police, the collision involved a Dodge Charger and a Nissan Pathfinder.
The impact was severe enough that the driver of the Dodge Charger, a 30-year-old man from Bardonia, New York, had to be medevacked from the scene via emergency helicopter. He was rushed to a hospital, where he died on Monday.
The driver of the Nissan Pathfinder, a 28-year-old man from Hewitt, was also injured in the wreck. He was transported to a local hospital for further medical evaluation and has since been treated and released.
Warwick Turnpike was shut down for several hours Sunday evening while emergency crews cleared the wreckage and investigators mapped the scene.
