SUV slams into River Edge realty office and bursts into flames overnight

Officials say the vehicle involved was a white Chevy Equinox that struck the front of Nigito Realty Co.

A car crashed into a building and caught fire overnight in River Edge, drawing a large emergency response.

The incident happened around 2:45 a.m., according to a nearby resident.

The resident said she heard a loud crash and then saw flames coming from the scene.

Officials say the vehicle involved was a white Chevy Equinox that struck the front of Nigito Realty Co. on Kinderkamack Road.

Video from earlier shows damage to the building and the burned vehicle being towed away.

Apartments are located above the business.

The resident said people were being helped out of the building and down a fire escape with assistance from firefighters.

Officials have not yet confirmed details about injuries or what caused the crash.

According to town officials, one person was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, but that information has not been officially confirmed.

A section of Kinderkamack Road was closed for the investigation. The road reopened by 7 a.m.

Authorities say they are still gathering information.
