Saturday was a frustrating day for some travelers at Newark Liberty International Airport as the wintry mix and an incident with a taxiing plane caused thousands to be delayed.
At around 8 a.m. a taxiing flight headed to Fort Lauderdale clipped wings with a parked airplane headed to Nashville. No one was injured and passengers had to deplane.
The Fort Lauderdale flight was delayed five hours. The Nashville flight was canceled.
A spokesperson with Southwest Airlines released a statement saying: “There is no higher priority for us than safety and we thank our customers for their understanding as we apologize ahead of their delayed travel. The aircraft are out-of-service for review.”
The wintry weather compounded the headaches. By Saturday evening, there had been a total of 368 delays, and 37 flights had been canceled.
