Two Paterson men have been arrested in connection with the robbery of a Wayne jewelry store, and authorities are searching for additional suspects, police said.

The robbery occurred June 16 at Massola Jewelers in Wayne. Police said the suspects drove away from the scene in a Hyundai Tucson and traveled east on Preakness Avenue toward Haledon and Paterson.

Shortly after the robbery, a Haledon police officer stopped a Chevrolet Malibu on West Broadway and saw that one rear passenger was bleeding, while another attempted to conceal his face. The vehicle fled the stop and was later found crashed and abandoned several blocks away. All occupants ran from the scene.

Officers from Haledon and Paterson converged on the area and apprehended one suspect, identified as 33-year-old Terrance D. Drakeford, of Paterson. Investigators said the Malibu contained sledgehammers, jewelry, gloves and broken glass. Wayne police took custody of the vehicle and later located the stolen Hyundai Tucson abandoned a few blocks away.

As the investigation continued, authorities identified a second suspect, 28-year-old Wyzier Peterson, of Paterson. Members of the Paterson Police Department arrested Peterson on June 18 near his home.

Drakeford and Peterson were both charged with robbery, burglary, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, theft, conspiracy to commit robbery, possession of burglary tools and criminal mischief. They were transferred to the Passaic County Jail Intake Hub pending detention hearings.

Police said the investigation remains active as detectives work to identify additional suspects.
