The NYPD rescued eight dogs from a Melrose apartment Monday after neighbors reported concerns about their safety and well-being.

The NYPD says officers responded to call around 5 p.m. Monday at 660 St. Anns Ave.

Inside, officers found eight dogs living in unsanitary conditions with no visible food. The animals were immediately removed and taken to the ASPCA for medical treatment and care.

The NYPD arrested 38-year-old Latoya Footman, who now faces animal cruelty charges.

The ASPCA says residents of New York City who want to report suspected animal abuse or neglect should contact 311, or 911 for crimes in progress. If you would like to more about the signs of abuse or neglect, visit here.
