Police say a 34-year-old man was fatally shot overnight in Brownsville near where a double shooting took place
less than 24 hours earlier.
Residents near Osborn Street and Riverdale Avenue told News 12 that they heard loud sounds early Sunday morning.
“There's a lot of crazy stuff going on around here,” said one resident who grew up in the area.
“People walk around at night drinking,” said another resident. “Weapons exposed, you know, it's just crazy. There's so many police that are here at night. It's like you're just here for nothing. Nobody feels safe even with them around.”
Just a few feet away from where police say the 34-year-old was killed, are two parks and a day care center.
With a long summer ahead — neighbors in the area say they’re praying for better days.
“All I can say is pray for your friends,” said Vanessa Swain. “Your family, pray for everybody. And know where your kids are at all times. It’s getting hard to even want to come outside and go to the store.”
Some are calling on city leaders to open up after school programs for the summer time that will provide kids with a safe environment to enjoy the summer.
Others tell News12 that although they want to enjoy the weather outside — shootings like this make they second guess where they can go.
