The NYPD says a 14-year-old boy was stabbed Thursday afternoon on Flatlands Avenue in Canarsie, just a few blocks away from South Shore High School.
Police say the call came in just before 2 p.m., and a trail of blood was visible out on the sidewalk from outside Taha Deli and Grocery, to the corner of Flatlands and E. 81st Street, right outside Bildersee Playground.
While people in the area say the block sees kids fighting almost every day after school, a witness tells News 12 off camera that this was actually two friends messing around inside the deli.
One had a knife, and the 14-year-old was apparently daring him, as they went back and forth saying things like "you won't do anything" and "you don't think I will?"
Eventually, the witness says the suspect did do something - and stabbed the victim in the leg.
News 12 was told both then ran out of the store in shock, with someone calling an ambulance.
"I see it was by the deli, and I was worried, because I knew the guy in the deli, so I was worried it was him that got stabbed or shot," but was relieved to learn that everyone will be alright," said Mohhamed Mouhamd, who lives nearby.
Another neighbor, Khaled Ali says he feels better after learning it was two people that knew each other.
"They're going to get things mend between them, like they're friends, they're not going to be a gang just pulls up next to you, starts beating you, it's different," expecting that this will be the end of the story," says Ali.
Police are still looking for the person responsible, telling News 12 that he was wearing a red hoodie.
