NJ Transit will resume offering limited paid overnight parking at two Hudson-Bergen Light Rail stations, with daily and monthly options at lower rates beginning this month.

The transit agency announced Monday that overnight parking will be available at the West Side Avenue and Liberty State Park stations. A review of commuter usage showed portions of the lots could be opened without reducing access for regular riders.

Sales for daily overnight parking begin April 15. Monthly overnight permits for May go on sale April 19. Parking will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, with a limited number of monthly permits at each location.

“This initiative reflects NJ Transit’s commitment to using our resources thoughtfully to benefit customers and the surrounding community,” NJ Transit President and CEO Kris Kolluri said. “By offering overnight parking at a rate below nearby garages, we are providing a convenient option to residents in the community while continuing to prioritize parking availability for our customers who depend on the HBLR every day.”

Daily overnight parking will cost $30 for a 24-hour period, compared with rates ranging from $36 to $44 at nearby garages, NJ Transit said. Monthly overnight permits will cost $345, below comparable nearby rates of $350 to $410.

Daily and monthly overnight parking tags must be purchased at ticket vending machines located at the West Side Avenue and Liberty State Park lots by selecting the parking option.

NJ Transit emphasized that sufficient parking will remain reserved for HBLR commuters who park daily at the two stations. The overnight program follows several months of analysis of lot usage trends.

Additional information about overnight parking options is available through NJ Transit customer channels.
